Indian boxer wins first match in US

Indian boxer Vikas Krishan kicked off his pro boxing career in the U.S. on January 18, at the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona, New York and won against Steven Andrade, according to a PTI report.

According to an ESPN report, Krishan trains with Newark-based coach Wali Moses, the grandfather of 2016 U.S. Olympic silver medalist Shakur Stevenson, at Brick City Hitters in East Orange, New Jersey and will continue to train with the Indian National Team in Punjab, India, with the hope of competing in the 2020 Olympics.

Krishan began boxing at the age of 10 and won a gold medal at the 2010 AIBA Youth World Boxing Championships in Baku, Azerbaijan.

He then went on to represent India at the 2012 and 2016 Olympics, along with being the only Indian fighter to win gold medals at the Asian and Commonwealth Games, winning three of them, as well as a bronze medal at the Asian Games before he went pro last year, according to a Patch.com report.
