NEW YORK — Manishkumar M. Patel was sentenced in U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York on May 16 with time-served on one count of using a false passport.

In January, he was arrested in New York by the U.S. Border Patrol after he was found carrying an expired passport although he told agents that he was not who his travel documents said he was.

According to Outagamie County authorities, Patel was transferred from federal custody to the custody of the state of New York.  He then agreed to being transferred to Wisconsin when he was again transported to Appleton where he was booked on May 22 in Outagamie County Jail.

Formerly from the town of Kaukauna, Patel, 43, also faces charges of attempted homicide, second-degree recklessly endangering safety, placing foreign objects in edibles, possession with intent to deliver prescription drugs, stalking, burglary, possession of burglary tools, two counts of violating a harassment restraining order and a felony bail jumping charge in a subsequent case.

He was suspected to flee to India after he skipped out on a cash bond of $750,000 nine years ago when he was accused of slipping an abortion pill into his girlfriend’s drink who later suffered from a miscarriage.

Outagamie County Court Commissioner Brian Figy has now set Patel’s bond to $50 million and he is to appear in court on June 1.
