Indian Americans Meenakshi Moorthy and Vishnu Viswanath, who died while falling off a steep cliff in Yosemite Valley in Yosemite National Park last October, had alcohol in their system, according to a New York Post report.

The couple had set up a tripod at Taft Point, overlooking the valley and were attempting to take a selfie to showcase their adventure on Instagram when they fell off the side of the cliff, which was a distance of 800 feet, according to a Mercury News report.

Viswanath, 29, was a software engineer in San Jose, California while Moorthy, 30, loved traveling the world and documenting the trips they took as husband and wife.

It is still unknown as to how much alcohol was in their system at the time of the fall, the coroner reported.

Since the investigation is in the jurisdiction of the National Park Service rangers, of which most have not reporting to work due the government shutdown, it is still ongoing, the Mariposa County Sheriff’s Office told the Mercury News.
