California based entertainment company, Karmagraphy, is adding Bollywood masala to the stunt-based cirque art forms and calling it “Bollycirque” from August 25 to 27 at the El Portal Theater in Los Angeles.

The 90-minute live-entertainment show called Aaja-A Tale of Karmic Destiny will be produced, directed and choreographed by Kavita Rao, the director of Karmagraphy Entertainment.

“The concept of creating a true synergy of the styles came around because our clientele and audiences loved our incorporation of Bollywood elements in cirque. The response was great, so we decided to take it to the next level” said Rao.

Along with Bollycirque the show also includes Western styles of dance such as Ballet, Jazz, Contemporary and Modern and is set in a surreal Bollywood theme with a story that is inspired by Hindu mythology as well as Alice in Wonderland.

The protagonist is a young woman who encounters mythical characters like aerial goddesses, stilt walkers, fire-eaters and mysterious ballerinas and grows from the experiences.

Aaja is divided into multiple acts with music that includes popular Indian beats and some tracks especially composed for the show by Aravind Reddy, who works with EDM and Carnatic fusion music and the BhaVa Network, who works with primordial sounds, both having performed all around the world.

“Our desire is to take it to the existing cirque and live-show arenas leaving a lasting impression in the theater and commercial industry across the world. There has never been a successful Bollycirque show and we want to make Aaja global,” Rao said on wanting to make Aaja a big show.

With a mission to integrate cultures through dance, music, art and acrobatics, while turning dreams into reality, Karmagraphy was founded in 2009 and the company focuses on bringing innovative choreography to customized performances on various occasions including corporate events, weddings, film and television as well as dance instruction and choreography.

Their dancers are some of the best in the industry and a few of their credits include Disney, Showtime, Jennifer Lopez, Taylor Swift, Christina Aguilera, Fifth Harmony, Avicii and Black Eyed Peas.
