An Indian-American has been hired by Wells Fargo, a bank which suffered a significant blow to its reputation after revelations that employees enrolled customers in various accounts without their knowledge because of pressure from higher-ups.

Nirag Patel, 35, who worked for 13 years at JPMorgan Chase as Vice President and Senior Branch Manager in Chicago in his last position, took over as District Manager of Wells Fargo in Chicago, according to his LinkedIn profile.

A graduate of Northern Illinois University with a Masters from the Keller Graduate School of Management, Patel “has a big job: to put Wells Fargo on the consumer map in Chicago against the backdrop of a brand name that’s taken a beating,” Chicagobusiness.com said.

Patel told Chicagobusiness.com he saw Chicago as “a growth market,” with a “dedicated clientele.”

His most important jobs for now at Wells Fargo are “building better name and positive brand recognition” and mentoring employees, Patel  indicated to Chicagobusiness.com, which also reported that in his new position Patel has 8 people reporting directly to him and a total of 90 employees in the branches he oversees.

At JPMorgan Chase, Patel began as a personal banker in January 2006 and rose through branch manager to VP, Senior Branch Manager at Chase Tower a little over 2 years ago.
